Method

Step 1

Preheat oven to 150° / gas mark 2. Spray ball cake pan with PME Cake Release or coat with butter and a dusting of flour.

Step 2

In a large mixing bowl add the butter and sugar. Using a hand held electric mixer, beat until soft and fluffy.

Step 3

Add the eggs and a tablespoon of flour and mix the ingredients until smooth. Add the remaining flour and fold in with a spatula. Divide the cake mixture in to 5 equal portions.

Step 4

Colour 1 of the mixtures with a teaspoon of PME Berry Red Colouring

Repeat this using 4 different colours to decorate the 5 bowls of cake mix. We used food colouring paste rather than liquid food colouring as it won't alter the consistency of the cake mixture!

Colours used:

Step 5

Spoon the mixture in to the greased Ball Pan, be careful to ensure you don't mix the colours too much when they're in the pan as the mixture will cook in the form of how it's placed in the pan.

When you're ready, place your ball pan in the preheated oven and bake the mixture for 60- 75 minutes.

Step 6

When your cake is cooked, remove from the oven and leave it to cool on a cooling rack. Once your cake has cooled completely, coat your cake with a generous protective layer of buttercream!

Step 7

Separate your sugarpaste in to 5 different sections and using the same 5 food colourings, colour your paste. When you are ready, roll our your sugarpastes and cut out hexagon shapes using your PME Football Cutters. We used the largest hexagon cutter!

Attach these to your cake, the buttercream will act like a glue between the cake and the sugarpaste, not all of the hexagon shapes will fit perfectly so for those that don't, use a knife or a PME Cutting Wheel Modelling Tool to trim the edges. Once this is done your cake is complete!
